Following my graduation from the University of Texas in 2001 with degree in philosophy, I worked for a few years as a claims adjuster for a major automobile insurance company. I went back to school at the University of Houston Law Center where I focused on criminal law and courtroom advocacy, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 2007. I knew that I wanted a career primarily as a criminal defense attorney but with the ability to handle any kind of courtroom matter whether criminal or civil. I was on the school’s mock trial team and traveled across the country competing successfully in interscholastic mock trial tournaments. During law school, I also gained experience working for a major personal injury and mass tort civil litigation firm as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
After becoming licensed, I worked as a prosecuting attorney for Travis County for ten years. I conducted dozens of jury trials and was assigned cases ranging from traffic citations to capital murder and everything in between. I also spent time in specialized divisions including the Special Victims Unit where I prosecuted child sexual assault cases, and the Critical Incident Unit where I investigated and prosecuted police misconduct cases. I opened Ervin Law Firm, PLLC in March of 2018, eager to put my experience to work for people facing criminal prosecution or injured in accidents.
